Thousands of San Diegans work in fields related to aerospace manufacturing and operations, giving the aerospace industry a significant role in our local economy. Join us as the heads of four major aerospace corporations discuss the contributions their companies are making to the future of aerospace.

RADM Thomas J. Cassidy, Jr. (USN Ret.)
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc.![]()
Prior to joining General Atomics in 1987, RADM Cassidy served in the U.S. Navy for 34 years, retiring as a Rear Admiral. As President and Chief Executive Officer of General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc., he coordinates the activities of the company's sales, design, manufacturing, training, and operations and support of unmanned aircraft surveillance systems and programs. He led General Atomics' entry into the unmanned aircraft business area and in a period of three years successfully established the company as a leader in this field. RADM Cassidy will describe the capabilities of round-the-clock, remotely operated surveillance systems and their contribution to national defense.

David R. Watson

A graduate of the Harvard Business School's Executive Development Program, Mr. Watson is Group Vice President, Aerostructures Group, BFGoodrich Aerospace. Before attaining that position, he spent more than 25 years in various positions at Lockheed Aircraft Services Co. and Rohr, Inc. Throughout his career in the aerospace industry, Mr. Watson's responsibilities have included developing strategic marketing plans, managing customer and product support, and coordinating commercial programs with other leading aerospace corporations. Mr. Watson's lecture will focus on the history of Rohr, Inc., from its early days to its acquisition by BFGoodrich Aerospace. He will also discuss current BFGoodrich Aerospace projects and plans for the future.

Robert A.K. Mitchell
Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical

Mr. Mitchell, President of Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical, has been an executive in the aerospace industry since 1976. He holds a B.S. degree in Aeronautical Engineering and an M.S. degree in Astronautical Engineering, and has supervised numerous space programs at Spar Aerospace in Toronto, Canada, and at Teledyne Brown Engineering in Huntsville, Alabama. As President of Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical since 1987, Mr. Mitchell has led the development of advanced technology unmanned aerial vehicle programs, including the Department of Defense's new Tier II Plus Global Hawk High Altitude Endurance Unmanned Aerial Reconnaissance System. Mr. Mitchell will speak about the history and future of Ryan Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) Systems.

John and Martha King started their aviation training business 23 years ago as a way to have fun while looking for a serious business. Their pastime has since grown to become King Schools, Inc., the world's leading producer of aviation training videos and software. King Schools continues to revolutionize pilot training by providing the first comprehensive multimedia training system for flight instruction. Today the Kings are having so much fun that they have abandoned their search for a "serious business." These two aviation educators will share their vision for the future of flight training with an entertaining and educational program including demonstrations of their new multimedia training program.
- To cover the expenses of using the San Diego Aerospace Museum's theater, the cost per attendee will be $20.00 for all four lectures.
- No individual lectures will be sold.
- Students, as guests of AIAA/SDAM members, and AIAA Student Branch members at UCSD or SDSU will be admitted FREE.
- Attendance is limited to 110.
- Make your reservations early by mailing the below registration form with your check payable to the San Diego Aerospace Museum.
*When you arrive for the lectures on November 3 and 10, 1998, you will need to use an alternate entrance to the museum.
Because another event is being held at the museum during the first two lectures in this series (November 3 and 10, 1998), you will need to enter the theater from the rear. We suggest you use the parking lot located behind the museum, as indicated on the map. Volunteers will be stationed in this parking lot to direct you to the theater's rear entrance. ![]()
